How to Take Advantage of Happy Chemicals
You may have heard about Dopamine, Oxytocin, and Serotonin, but do you know how to use them to your advantage?
Our brains are hard at work while we navigate life's ups and downs.
A neurotransmitter called Dopamine is created by the hypothalamus, a little area of the brain that aids in pleasure perception. Dopamine is released by the brain when you perform actions that make you feel good or after you finish a task, and it plays a significant role in your reward system. Dopamine also aids with motivation and mobility.
How can we get dopamine naturally?
Engaging in self-care activities is one place to start. Exercising, enjoying music, and taking breaks are just a few to get you started.

Love and connection-inducing Oxytocin is a hormone generated by the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland. The brain may release oxytocin, also referred to as the "cuddle hormone," during moments of close connection with others or maternal behaviors like birthing or breastfeeding.
Getting Oxytocin naturally can be accomplished by embracing a hug, socializing, and finding ways to help others.
If you struggle with low self-esteem finding the opportunities to increase Oxytocin may be difficult. Check out our self-esteem resources on the Feel Good Portal to learn about how you can improve this important piece of your mental health.
Serotonin's effects are felt when you're joyful and everything seems to be going right. This hormone is in charge of a variety of tasks, including elevating mood.
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI), which help raise serotonin levels, are common antidepressant drugs.
Being physically active, enjoying natural light, and upping your intake of vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains.
How do we take advantage of our happy chemicals? We need to be sure that we are focused on our wellness to start. You may have noticed a theme of physical activity, following a nutrient rich diet, and connecting with others.
